SUMMARY:(Postponed) Geo Sapiens: A Business Workshop for the Earth Wise
DESCRIPTION:(Postponed\, date TBD) This exciting and unique workshop will inspire sustainability\, business and education professionals (and members of the public who informally participate in these areas) with new perspectives and skills for achieving their goals. \nSpeakers\nMartin Ogle\, former Arlingtonian and Chief Naturalist for the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority (1985-2012). Ogle\, brings a new paradigm – “Geo sapiens” (or “Earth-wise Human”) – that integrates our understanding of human systems (including the human mind) with Earth’s living systems. Seeing human creativity as part of Earth’s biology inspires and guides us to better aim that creativity at our most pressing challenges. Ogle draws upon Earth systems science\, stories and mythology. \nLarry Robertson\, Arlington author of A Deliberate Pause will discuss fresh concepts of entrepreneurship and challenge us to take a fresh approach to envisioning business and careers that are compatible with human nature and Nature as a whole. \nThe workshop will include:\nAn introduction to the science of Gaia Theory\, its history and evolution and the interdisciplinary “lens” it provides.\nExploration of the “Gaia Paradigm” – the confluence of scientific understandings of Earth as a single living system with cultural understandings (ancient and new) of human society as a seamless continuum of that system.\nBridges between traditional environmental education and business and entrepreneurship.\nExploring the evolution of thought provided by author Richard Louv. Author of the best-selling book on the importance of getting children outdoors\, Louv’s latest book\, “The Nature Principle” discusses the importance of envisioning all human activities – especially careers/business – in service of a healthy human-nature relationship.
