Leaders in Energy celebrates its 3,000th member!

Leaders in Energy recently reached quite a significant milestone – over 3,000 members in the Leaders in Energy Research, Communications, Policies & Analysis group on LinkedIn!

Whenever this happens, we like to shine the spotlight on our members to show the diversity of talents and backgrounds that are joining our group. Some join virtually from wherever they are located around the world. Others attend our monthly networking events in the Washington, DC area. Today, let’s welcome Ida Namur, who we asked to share a bit about her background.

“I am originally from Norway. I knew I wanted to become an environmental scientist when I was 12 years old. I always found science and nature to be fascinating, and I was interested in exploring how we can protect the environment while still having a comfortable and safe human existence. In my first year of high school, I decided that I wanted to go the U.S. for college because when the U.S. makes a change, the world changes. I was drawn to the American Dream, the possibility of being part of something big and impactful.

After graduating from Hawaii Pacific University in 2003 with a BS in Environmental Science, I worked for two smaller firms before joining AECOM in 2007. There, I spent 7 years as an environmental scientist working with private sector and government clients on environmental and renewable energy assessments. Some projects I worked on included evaluating the impact of offshore wind farms off the east coast of the U.S.

In 2014 I got the opportunity to join the newly formed AECOM Power and Energy department in the Washington, DC metro area, and I pivoted in my career to focus on energy efficiency and sustainability. I now manage a small (but growing) team of engineers who work on multi-disciplinary teams to help our clients meet their energy and sustainability goals.

I joined the Leaders in Energy group after signing up to attend the CWEEL panel at the Energy & Sustainability Extravaganza at University of Maryland on February 23, 2018. I also just joined the National Capital Chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers and am excited about opportunities to collaborate with my fellow Leaders in Energy locally and around the world.”

Leaders in Energy is building a community of engaged leaders to create a sustainable energy system, economy, and world. The three main areas of action are the green economy, sustainable communities, and multigenerational leadership. With operations in Metro Washington DC, we’ve built a base that spans most major metropolitan areas and over 100 countries.
